We offer Anti-Aging Dentistry treatments in Sunnyvale, Texas, to help you look and feel younger by reducing the appearance of wrinkles.

Anti-Aging Dentistry

Did you know that injection fillers are used for more than just treating wrinkles? Our injection solutions, similar to Botox, are also a popular treatment for improving your lip shape, treating jaw joint issues, and even getting rid of a gummy smile. With Anti-Aging Dentistry treatments at OliveTree Dentistry, you can look and feel your best. Dr. Koshy typically treats dynamic wrinkles with Neurotoxin (similar to Botox) to relax the muscles that cause lines on the skin. She then follows by treating static wrinkles with fillers, which help plump areas where people lose fat as they age.

What are Anti-Aging Dentistry Treatments?

Anti-aging dentistry treatments use a neurotoxic protein that relaxes muscles, softening wrinkles. When we inject this protein (similar to Botox) into muscles, it blocks the nerve signals that tell the muscles to contract. This block causes the muscles to be used less often, reducing the appearance of wrinkles. Anti-aging dentistry treatment is most commonly used to treat crow's feet, forehead wrinkles, and frown lines.

What Happens After a Comprehensive Dental Exam?

After concluding your exam, we will create a fully customized plan, including immediate treatment needs, preventive measures, and cosmetic dentistry procedures you may want to consider to enhance your smile. Our primary goal is always to prevent dental problems from developing and treating existing ones before they progress.

Injection Therapy for TMJ

Beyond just treating wrinkles, our injection treatments are a tremendous therapeutic procedure with various benefits. OliveTree Dentistry also offers neurotoxin treatments to help with Temporomandibular Joint Disorder. The TMJ is the joint that attaches your jawbone to your skull. This disorder can cause pain in the jaw and face and clicking or popping sounds when you move your mouth. It can make chewing and even speaking painful and difficult.

Injection therapy can be highly effective in significantly decreasing pain and increasing mouth movements following treatment. Botox injections work by relaxing the TMJ muscles and providing relief from these symptoms.

For facial pain and TMD cases, neurotoxins can be generally applied to several facial expression and mastication muscles, including the masseter, temporalis, frontalis, procerus, corrugator, orbicularis oris, orbicularis oculi, mentalis, depressor anguli oris, and pterygoid muscles.

We use botulinum toxin products routinely in helping patients with bruxism. Here is where proper training in the use of BoNT-A neurotoxins is essential. We would typically treat bruxism and TMD patients with bilateral injections of BoNT-A into the masseter and temporalis muscles. A practicing clinician must have a good feel as to what the proper dosage is because too much of the BoNT-A will paralyze the muscles of mastication and interfere with the patient's ability and confidence in chewing and talking. Too small of a dosage will not have any effect at all. Using the right amount of BoNT-A will reduce the intensity of contractions of these muscles of mastication and give your patient complete competence for chewing, eating properly, and speaking. The relief afforded to patients by BoNT-A neurotoxins can help eliminate facial pain, grossly reduce their TMD symptoms, and significantly help the other associated periodontal disease treatments by removing the bruxism element.

Injection Therapy for Lip Filler

At OliveTree Dentistry, we can also use our dermal fillers to improve the shape of your lips. Comparable to Botox, our anti-aging dermal fillers can cause them to appear fuller and more youthful when injected into the lips. It can create a subtle, natural improvement without overly-dramatic results.

Injection Therapy for Gummy Smile

We also offer injection therapy as an excellent cosmetic dentistry procedure to treat a "gummy smile" in a non-invasive and quick process. A gummy smile is a condition where your smile shows too much of your gum line, or the gums extend too far above the tooth bottoms. Our injectable dental therapy can reduce the amount of gum tissue exposed when you smile.

Anti-aging with Dermal fillers

Dermal fillers will volumize creases and folds in the face in areas that have lost fat and collagen as we age. After age 30, we all lose approximately 1% of hyaluronic acid from our bodies. Hyaluronic acid is the natural filler substance in your body. The face starts to lack volume and appears aged with deeper nasolabial folds, unaesthetic marionette lines, a deeper mentalis fold, the lips begin to thin, and turning down the corners of the lips.

Hyaluronic acid fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm® are injected extraorally right underneath these folds to replace the volume lost, creating a younger look on the face. Dermal fillers can be used for high lip line cases, asymmetrical lips around the mouth, lip augmentation, and completing cosmetic dentistry cases by creating a beautiful, young-looking frame around the teeth. The effect of dermal fillers typically lasts anywhere from 6 to 12 months, at which point the procedure needs to be repeated. Both Botox® and dermal fillers are procedures that take anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes.

Is Injection Therapy Safe?

Yes! Our injection therapy is a safe and effective cosmetic and therapeutic procedure administered by a trained professional such as Dr. Merlin Koshy. Dentists are experts in the anatomy and function of the face. Dentists even utilize injection therapy to treat medical issues, including headaches due to clenching and extracapsular myogenic temporomandibular dysfunction. While the procedures for administering those treatments differ from cosmetic Botox injections, Dr. Koshy is qualified and trained to provide facial injections with precision.
